Vincent - Day 1-4

Vincent:
Nov 19, 11:52 pm, 6.7 lbs, 13, 19.5 in

Vincent Day 1

Correction: day 1-2 are the same day since Vinny came out 11:52pm on Nov 16

Vincent had a long day coming out. Mommy pushed for a long time 2+ hrs. Vince had some nasal flare so daddy had to go with Hhm to the level 2 care and watch him feel better before he and mommy could hang out.  Daddy and Vinny hung out for 3 hrs alone before we all got reunited in mommys recovery room. Vinny got his first shot, his first bath, his first diaper and clothes.

Vincent Day 2

Baby Vinny was really well behaved. Today he fed and pooped all day. Vince got his first visitors as grandma and pa showed up to feed mommy. Vinny still needs to learn how to feed well and also can only deep sleep when he is skin to skin with mommy or daddy. Biggest thing today for Vinny was that he got a circumcision, we were told he did really well but he looks like someone that just got a circumcision.....shocked

Vincent Day 3

Vinny is home!!!  Vinny finally got to go home. Today he got his first elevator ride, car ride and first time out of the hospital.  He looked generally shocked when he got home.  Today He also changed into his first new outfit. But on the downside he finally stopped being polite and cried every hour.  Mommy had to finally feed him every 3 hours.  Now it's 4 am in the morning and mommy is tired and hurting but feeding Vinny.

Vincent Day 4

I’m taking Motrin to help ease the pain.  Vincent is learning to latch on appropriately.  Mommy is doing such a bad job that Vincent has learned to latch on himself in awkward positions.  Breasts are feeling fuller and it seems like feeding has gotten better.

Today was Vincent’s first doctor’s visit.  I mentioned the hospital’s previous concern for jaundice so we did a check.  We will complete yet another blood test tomorrow to determine if it’s an issue.

The nurse drew blood from Vincent’s foot.  Vincent squirmed but managed to only cry a bit.  I’ve learned to pick Vincent up so that he’s comfortable and he often falls asleep in my arms resulting in the ability to straighten my right arm.

Rob is receiving the umpteenth boxes for Vincent - high chair, convertible car seat, etc.

Mom and Dad

I had so many tantrum when my parents first moved in.  I was constantly worried that they will change our little love nest with their habits or clumsiness.

Now, I don't know what I would've done without them.  My dad cooks constantly and my mom cleans constantly.

We learned that postpartum mom runs on a hormone that allows us to run like super moms, feeding our newborns every 2-3 hours.  If that's the case, what are my parents running on?

The Shin-chan Look

I called it the death stare.  On the fourth day of life, I found him particularly sad.  There was sorrow in his eyes.  That has all changed since I learned that jaundice is not a condition we should be concerned about for Vincent. It helps too when Dr Perez told us that his eye color is due to vitamin k in newborns.  Since then, the world seems brighter and my child seems happier.

Nevertheless, he gave me the Shin-chan look at every car ride.  The slightly wrinkled forehead and the side stare when you sit next to him.  Perhaps, he's mad that we took him out!  Also, he had to get a shot the last two visits to the hospital to draw blood from his foot.  For a baby who got needle shots, he doesn't cry that much.  I'm so proud of him.

Skin to skin

It is day six since our son has been born. Rob and I attended a seminar at Babies r us and it brought back memories of our skin to skin session after Vincent's birth.  The slimy warmth and wet gooeyness!

Rob the Papa

Over the last few days, more than the over joy of having the perfect child, I've only noticed more of my loving husband. I hear the thunder steps of Rob rushing to the phone to hear from the doctor's news about the jaundice results, I see a nervous father who is apart from his son looking at the video monitor, I see the distress driver when his son is hungry, and I see the paparazzi following the breaking news at the hospital.

It's the unconditional love that makes him standout.  I love the man who made our family hug, the man who gently touches mom to ask how she is holding up, the man that doesn't lose sight of his wife after his son's birth.
